30th September 2020 – Bamboo Distribution, an international leader in the recovery, refurbishment, resale and recycling of mobile phones, has bolstered its senior management team with mobile industry veteran, John Lam. As Head of Global Buyback, Lam will be responsible for establishing Bamboo Distribution’s ecommerce capabilities and spearheading the company’s global buyback scheme.
Co-founder of Mazuma Mobile, Lam launched the first online mobile buyback company in 2006. Mazuma Mobile quickly become the market leader and Lam successfully ran the business for 12 years until he sold the company in 2018 to EcoAsia.
At its peak Mazuma was trading in over 120,000 mobile handsets per month and over the 12 years Lam has managed over 10 million handsets.
Since then Lam has been consulting, before taking up this position at Bamboo Distribution. Lam has been developing Bamboo Distribution’s bespoke online platform where consumers will be able to directly buy, sell or part-exchange mobiles throughout the UK and internationally.
John Lam, Head of Global Buyback at Bamboo Distribution, said: “I’m looking forward to working with the team at Bamboo Distribution. The decision to join the company was an easy one for me – the company culture and the way they work was a perfect fit. The telecoms industry has changed dramatically since I started. There has been a significant shift in how consumers view the value of their handsets and the trade-in market is definitely due a shake up. Bamboo has the foundation and channels to introduce a more modern buyback platform to give consumers more money for their mobile phones.”
Juney Mistiki, Managing Director at Bamboo Distribution, said: “We’re excited to have John on board. His experience and expertise are a great asset to our company and will add value to the current business, as well as working with us to develop a world-beating ecommerce and global buyback division. After we launch in the UK this year, John will support Bamboo in introducing our Buyback Platform into several international countries within our 18 month plan. These include Germany, Spain, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus and Israel. Our goal is to be trading in 100,000 + handsets a month by 2022.”
